About The Georgian Highlands Community!
The Georgian Highlands is characterized by easy access from all directions through two main gates, accessible build sites, and paved roads throughout. The community is conveniently located north of Atlanta, just a one hour or less highway drive from the northern suburbs, and an easy six or seven hour’s drive from central Florida or southern Ohio. The community is located along the eastern borders of both Pickens and Gilmer Counties and is surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest to the north and the Dawson National Forest to the east. Several large protected tracks, such as the Tate and Rich Mountain Preserves, are immediately adjacent to the community as well. All of this ensures the conservation of the natural beauty that surrounds our community.
The home sites within the Georgian Highlands are serviced by underground utilities throughout. Electricity and phone lines are conveniently located at the junction of each lot with the easement along the adjoining road. Water is by individual well, household waste is removed by a buried septic system on each lot, and propane is the primary source of home heating fuel. DSL lines or fiber optic cables are the typical source for Internet access, but a dedicated dish is an option. High-speed cable connections are available in a portion, but not all, of the Georgian Highlands. Connectivity to a source for TV viewing is most often by an individual dish given that cable connections are only available in those areas where fiber optic lines exist.
Despite the feeling of remoteness once inside the gates, all the urban comforts are just minutes away in several mountain cities. Jasper and Ellijay are immediately to the west, and the companion villages of Blue Ridge, Dawsonville and Canton are to the north, east and south, respectively. In each of these small towns you will find grocery and DYI shopping, state-of-the-art hospitals, medical offices, numerous pharmacies, and all the other necessities of life; think fast-food chains. These resources are coupled with a wide range of nature-oriented outdoor activities of the variety one would hope to find in mountain communities: tubing, white water rafting, kayaking, fly fishing, trekking, horseback riding, soaring/gliding, mountain biking, and mountain climbing to name a few.
